Long Building: The final piece of the Grainstore puzzle

We’re excited to share the news that the Long Building, the newest addition to The Grainstore, has now been completely finished – all of the offices, workshops and storage units along the inner Street have been freshly painted and ready to welcome more local businesses into our thriving community!

Although the Long Building has been open and in use for several months, this recent full paint marks the final touch in a transformation that’s been years in the making. This milestone not only completes our redevelopment journey but perfectly unites every corner of The Grainstore with a consistent, characterful look.

From agricultural warehouse to bustling business community

When the Grainstore’s redevelopment began back in 2017, the site was a collection of tired agricultural grain warehouses – full of history and potential, but in need of a new purpose. Through careful investment and a vision for community regeneration, those same industrial buildings have been reimagined as a vibrant hub for local enterprise, now home to independent traders, artisans and creative professionals who bring the site to life every day.

The Long Building development represents one of the most exciting chapters in that story by transforming the 18,000 ft2 interior into a series of flexible business spaces. We’ve created a new internal street which is completely undercover – blending heritage with innovation and giving this historic structure a completely new lease of life. Now, with its full repaint in Farrow & Ball’s Cardroom Green, the transformation is complete – and it looks fantastic.

The finishing touch

The painting works were carried out by AKS Coatings, specialists in commercial spray-applied finishes. Their team completed over 500m² of internal blockwork in just 2.5 days, delivering an exceptional result with minimal disruption to our tenants.

The new finish brings a polished, professional look to the space, complementing the Grainstore’s existing colour palette – from the bold orange of the Tall Building to the denim blue tones of East and West Street, and the muted pastels of the Low and Middle Buildings.

The Long Building offers a versatile mix of storage units, workshops and offices, designed to support a range of local businesses and independent professionals. Whether you need space to make, store or create, the Long Building provides a practical and welcoming base within a thriving community.

At present, we have storage units and an office space available, and we’re also operating a waiting list for workshop spaces. Each unit benefits from convenient access, shared onsite facilities and the friendly, collaborative atmosphere that makes the Grainstore such a special place to work.

Since 2017, the Grainstore has grown from a cluster of redundant farm buildings into a bustling destination for creativity, craftsmanship and collaboration. Now, in 2025, it’s home to a wide range of local enterprises – a living example of how a historic site can evolve into something modern, useful and community-driven.
