Self Storage Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about self storage at the Grainstore and how it works.

What is self storage and how does it work?
The Grainstore offers a range storage units for personal, business and recreational storage use. If you’re looking to clear up some much needed space in your garage or your loft at home, or finding yourself with limited space to hold your business stock, the Grainstore is for you.

How do I rent storage space at the Grainstore?
We have standard documentation which we try to make straight forward and as easy to understand as possible. Standard documents also minimise cost. We also ask for a photo of your ID (passport or driving licence). Payment of a deposit and the first invoice must be made prior to moving in.

What is the minimum rental period?
We aim to be as flexible as possible. The minimum rental period is one month. You can store your items with us for as long as you want, there is no maximum rental period. We ask for a calendar months’ notice when you’re ready to move out.

What is included in the price – are there any hidden extras?
Customers are strongly recommended to arrange insurance cover. The contents of each unit are not inspected by us and are expressly not covered by our insurance policy. Many customers extend their household/business insurances to cover stored items. This is likely to be the cheapest option but you will need to talk to your insurers beforehand. Electricity used will also be recharged via a Landlord's meter.

What can I use the storage units for?
Pretty much anything. Most household and business items can be stored. Popular uses are household goods, builders’ materials, business stocks and archive records.

What is not suitable for storage?
Flammable or combustible materials.
Any items containing petrol/oil etc. need to be drained down prior to storage.
Gas containers are also unsuitable.
Perishable Foodstuffs
Animals or animal products.
Hazardous and dangerous items – explosives, ammunition, toxic waste, asbestos, chemicals, radioactive materials etc.
